FAQs

Are your CMMC assessments official and recognized by the DoD?

Yes, ATX Defense is an accredited Certified Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO) under the Cyber AB. That means our CMMC Level 2 assessments are official and fully recognized by the Department of Defense (DoD). Passing an assessment with us provides the certification you need to compete for DoD contracts.

When should I schedule my assessment?

We recommend scheduling your assessment as soon as your company is ready and well in advance of the 2026 deadline. CMMC assessments are in high demand, and availability can be limited. Planning early ensures you have time for final preparation and documentation and avoids the risk of missing eligibility for upcoming contract opportunities.

What is the process for a CMMC assessment?

A CMMC assessment with ATX Defense follows a structured process:

  1. Schedule your assessment: As soon as you are ready and meet all the controls for CMMC.
  2. Scoping: Before your assessment our team will review the scope of your assessment to define the systems and environments that handle CUI.
  3. Assessment: During a virtual or on-site assessment, our assessors review your policies, procedures, and evidence against CMMC requirements.
  4. Interviews & Validation: We meet with key staff to validate that practices are implemented.
  5. Findings & Report: After your assessment, you’ll receive a report detailing your compliance status and noting any necessary remediation.
  6. Certification: Upon meeting all CMMC requirements, your organization is issued an official CMMC certification.
How will I know I’m ready for an assessment?

You’re ready when you have all 110 NIST 800-171 controls implemented, policies documented, and evidence in place. If you’re unsure, a readiness assessment (or gap analysis) is the best way to confirm. This helps you avoid surprises during the formal assessment.

Can you do my assessment if I’m using CMMC Space?

We can’t be your C3PAO if you are using CMMC Space. As an accredited C3PAO, ATX Defense can not assess any client for whom it has also provided consulting, advisory, or implementation services. This is a strict conflict of interest rule designed to ensure the integrity and impartiality of the official certification process.
